ESPARTO — November 2, 2026. Yolo County manages a 41-acre open-space preserve at 15603 County Road 85, about a mile northwest of Esparto and near Capay.
What visitors can explore
The county describes more than two miles of walking trails, picnic tables, benches, three shade structures and interpretation panels. An accessible ramp provides access toward Cache Creek and the park contains floodplain, oak savanna and streamside habitats.
A day-use preserve, not a campground
Capay Open Space Park closes at dusk and prohibits overnight camping. Trail accessibility can change after severe storms or flooding; a posted paved ramp should not be understood as a promise that every creek segment is safe.
Stream and wildlife safety
Water levels, current, slippery banks and changing weather can make the creek hazardous. Visitors should avoid disturbing protected wildlife or entering private land near the preserve and check any county advisories before a long trip.
